Hello from the Pickering home
I'm Kirk Pickering of Pegram, Tennessee, and I hosted an Old Time fiddle jam once a week in my music room from December 2001 to December 2007. I've been playing fiddle for about seven years and I also play mandolin, guitar and acoustic bass. I met Susie Coleman at a jam at a friend's house a few years back and and we've been a happy couple ever since.
One thing Susie and I have in common is that we both love fiddle tunes. We each have personal musical interests as well— Susie plays bluegrass and traditional folk music. Kirk will play in a number of contexts, and is a good all-around utility player. As you can imagine, there's music at our house much of the time.
The Pegram Jam has had a website up since the beginning of the jam, but Susie redesigned it for us and made it a little more user-friendly. Susie currently works from our home as a print and web designer and is a freelance bookkeeper. She was a professional club musician in her 20's and 30's who turned her attention to traditional folk music about fifteen years ago. Susie has won 12 first-place awards at regional folksinging contests in the last twelve years and now shares her experience to help other women learn to play by ear. To learn more about her work (and to hear some mighty good singing), click here.
When I am not playing music, I am probably working on computers, or making contacts with my ham radio station. I do UNIX and network system consulting work, and also host several web sites. With a degree in civil and environmental engineering, I worked for various environmental research and government agencies for many years, then left to pursue private consulting work and my love of music. Susie and I hope you enjoy using our site as a learning and practice tool.
